Welcome to Alabama, NY
Overview Alabama is in the northwest corner of Genesee County, bordered to the west by the Tonawanda Indian Reservation and the Tonawanda State Wildlife Management Area (as well as Niagara and Erie counties), and to the north by Orleans County and the Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge. To the south is the town of Pembroke, and to the east, the town of Oakfield. Because of the reservation and wildlife areas, Alabama is one of the least developed communities in Genesee County, making it ideal for outdoor lovers. State routes 63 and 77 intersect in the town. Oak Orchard Creek – a popular fishing spot – flows through the north part of town, and the Tonawanda Creek, with a lovely waterfall, is in the southern part. The town of Alabama includes the hamlets of Basom, Indian Falls and South Alabama. The Village of Medina, in Orleans County, is about 8 miles due north; the City of Batavia is about 14 miles southeast.

Essentials For most of their shopping needs, residents will head to Medina, a short 8-mile drive north, where you’ll find a Top’s Friendly Market grocery store and an historic downtown with a variety of shops and restaurants. Batavia, a quick trip southeast, has a wide variety of stores, including Walmart, Kmart, Sears and JCPenney’s. The Oakfield-Alabama Central School District serves this area. The closest hospital is Medina Memorial, in Medina, where you’ll also find the closest library – the Lee Whedon Memorial Library. The Corfu Free Library is about 10 miles to the south. The Basom Post Office, at 7156 Alleghany Road, serves the town’s residents
