Overview

Located in southeast Rochester, the Cobbs Hill neighborhood is centered around Cobbs Hill Park. It is a relatively affluent area with gently sloping streets and homes of a variety of architectural styles that were mostly built in the 1920s and 1930s. The area is bordered by Interstate 490, Highland Avenue, the Town of Brighton and Cobbs Hill Park, and is near the Park Avenue and Monroe Avenue neighborhoods.

The neighborhood is popular with a wide range of ages, from families who have been here for years, to artists, to younger people who typically are of recent college age and rent.




Essentials

This lively neighborhood has many restaurants, bars, and stores, and plenty of places to get outside at Cobbs Hill Park. The closest libraries are on Monroe Avenue in the city and on Elmwood Avenue in the town of Brighton. The nearest post office is at 130 N. Winton Road. The old Culver Road Armory, across from Cobbs Hill Park, has been recently renovated to include upscale shops and eateries.




Recreation & Entertainment

Cobbs Hill Park is busy year-round, with cross-country skiiers and sledders in winter replaced by basketball, softball and tennis players and others in the summer. Hikers regularly traverse the area around the reservoir, and others use the hill leading to the reservoir for hiking, running and cycling. Cobbs Hill Park also has cabins available for public rental. There are several restaurants and clubs within walking distance.




Transportation & Traffic

Interstate 490 is accessible by Culver Road as well as several other thoroughfares. Culver can be quite busy during rush-hour traffic. Monroe Avenue also is heavily traveled.




Pros & Cons

This is one of the premier city neighborhoods because of Cobbs Hill Park and its proximity to Park Avenue, the town of Brighton and the Highland Park area. The area gets spillover traffic from the annual Park Avenue Festival. Rental prices are typically higher than in other parts of the city.
