Overview

Marketview Heights in northeast Rochester is best known for, and named for, the Rochester Public Market, where shoppers can buy locally grown produce and other food and a variety of other goods. The boundaries are Clifford Avenue to the north, the Inner Loop and East Main Street to the south, North Goodman Street to the east, and North Street to the west.




Who Lives Here

This area has become more popular with a concentration of young homeowners who are interested in urban living.




Essentials

The market has many restaurants and coffee shops and also is a place to buy fresh food and produce. The closest libraries are the Lincoln branch, at 851 Joseph Ave., and the Sully branch, at 530 Webster Ave. The closest post office is the downtown branch, at 216 Cumberland St. There are few restaurants and bars. Marketview Heights does have several community gardens.




Recreation & Entertainment

Bands perform often at the Public Market, including the popular and free “Bands on the Bricks” series in the summer. The armory has morphed into a place for live music and sporting events. The old dentistry school holds a popular “haunted house” event at Halloween time.




Transportation & Traffic

The Inner Loop, part of Interstate 490, is at one end of the neighborhood and provides east-west access. With the market right in the neighborhood, area streets can get crowded with traffic during market hours. East Main Street and North Goodman are well traveled.




Pros & Cons

Marketview Heights has affordable housing and older homes. Along with the public market and armory, residents can easily walk to the East End and Neighborhood of the Arts neighborhoods.
