Rochester has many beautiful parks, such as Highland Park and Cobbs Hill, and is the home of many popular festivals such as the Lilac Festival and the Rochester International Jazz Festival, both of which attract visitors from all over the country. The city features Ontario Beach Park with its beach, boardwalk and pier at its northernmost point. The popular River Romance in the fall features attractions and events centered around the Genesee River. Lively neighborhoods such as Park Avenue, Monroe Village and South Wedge are popular with younger crowds and are fun to stroll. East Avenue has its stately mansions and the homes of Rochester aristocracy, many of which have been converted for use by organizations. The George Eastman House and the International Museum of Photography located within are known throughout the world. Rochester used to be known as the “Flour City” for the flour mills that defined the city in its earlier years. The High Falls neighborhood highlights some of these earlier times and has a great view of the High Falls.
