Tonawanda Creek flows through the middle of town. This is the home of the Western New York Gas and Steam Engine Association, which holds an annual rally that regularly attracts 30,000 people. Here, you’re less than 10 miles from Batavia, the commercial and cultural center of Genesee County; Darien Lakes Theme Park and Darien Lake State Park; the Genesee County Park and Forest; and Attica, which holds an annual rodeo and is the home of the notorious prison of the same name. Barber Conable, a longtime Congressman and former head of the World Bank, is from Alexander.

Local Museums/Landmarks
The Alexander Town Museum, which opened in the 1950s, is on the third floor of Town Hall. The town’s many cobblestone buildings are landmarks, and the former Alexander Classical School – now used as Town Hall – was built in 1830 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The Western New York Gas and Steam Engine Association, based here, holds an annual show to demonstrate antique gas and steam engines, gas tractors and antique agricultural and construction equipment.
