Fairport has its own municipal power company, Fairport Electric - which means lower rates for residents. The Fairport Central School District is an excellent one. It features four elementary buildings, two junior highs, a ninth grade school, and Fairport High for grades 10 thru 12.

Parks
The Erie Canal Towpath is a great spot for biking, hiking and in-line skating… There are three canal side parks to relax in - Kennelley Park on Main St., North Bank Canal Park, and Packett's Landing Warf… Potter Park on West Church St. features green-space and a playground.

Annual Events
Fairport Canal Days are in June featuring arts and crafts, music, boat rides and more; live concerts are given all summer at the canalside gazebo and on the amphitheater in Center Park; "Lift Bridge Regatta" is held in September; a Farmers' Market runs all season long; the Fairport Music and Food Festival is in August; a Spring Fling is held in May; there are parades for Memorial Day and 4th of July; and the Fairport Scarecrow Festival is an annual favorite each fall.

Route I-490 is easily accessible, connecting residents to the rest of the county. Traffic flow is steady much of the day throughout the village but can get quite congested during special events.
