OverviewCazenovia is a town on the western edge of Madison County, bordered to the north by Sullivan, to the east by Fenner and Nelson, to the south by DeRuyter and to the west by Onondaga County (town of Pompey). The town includes a village, also named Cazenovia, and within the town borders is Cazenovia Lake. The lake is surrounded by historic mansions, many of which have been converted into bed-and-breakfast establishments. Cazenovia has long been a popular, upscale summer vacation area. The Brewster Inn has played host to numerous VIPs, like President Bill Clinton. The town has dozens of historic sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Cazenovia College, a small, liberal arts school, is here. Chittenango Falls State Park, which features a 167-foot waterfall, also is in the town. There are numerous other attractions here, including an outdoor sculpture park, equine centers, performing-arts theaters, a renewable-energy education center and wineries.
Local Museums & Landmarks There are several historic sites and landmarks in Cazenovia. Lorenzo State Historic Site includes a mansion, gardens and arboretum. The Museum at Cazenovia Public Library features artifacts like Native American tools and beadwork and an Egyptian mummy. Stone Quarry Hill Art Park has outdoor sculptures placed throughout 100 scenic acres. Cazenovia has more than two dozen sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places including the village’s business district, many farmhouses and an old schoolhouse. Cazenovia College has several interesting sites, including the Catherine Cummings Theatre (formerly the Cazenovia Opera House) and the Equine Education Center. Chittenango Falls State Park offers all kinds of outdoor beauty. In Canastota, 14 miles northeast, you’ll find the International Boxing Hall of Fame and Museum.
