Overview

Eaton is a town in south-central Madison County, bordered to the north by Smithfield and Stockbridge, to the east by Madison, to the south by Lebanon and to the west by Nelson. Eaton includes the village of Morrisville, which is home to the State University of New York at Morrisville, along with several hamlets. Morrisville State, as it’s called here, has an equine center and a fish hatchery among its attractions.



Essentials

For grocery shopping, Morrisville has smaller stores like a Big M and Express Mart. Tops Friendly Markets has a store in Cazenovia, about 11 miles west of Morrisville. The closest Wegmans supermarket is in Fayetteville, Onondaga County, about 25 miles northwest of Morrisville. For retail shopping, Morrisville has smaller stores like Hedgerow General and Dougherty’s Pharmacy. For a wider variety of shopping options, Cazenovia offers all kinds of upscale shopping in the Cazenovia Historic Business District.



Recreation & Entertainment

Many of the attractions in Eaton are part of Morrisville State College, like the IcePlex, a twin-rink ice skating complex used by college students and the general population year-round, and the Equine Complex for horse-back riding. Madison Hall holds a year-round concert series in the performance hall of the Old County Courthouse Building.



Transportation & Traffic

Well-traveled Route 20 runs east-west through the town of Eaton. Route 26 heads north-south. Route 12 also heads north-south and is just east of Eaton.



Pros & Cons

The biggest attractions here at Morrisville State College and the larger Colgate University, nearby in Hamilton. Eaton is a largely rural community with plenty of things to do within a short distance.
