Overview

Fenner is a town in central Madison County, bordered to the north by Sullivan and Lincoln, to the east by Smithfield, to the south by Nelson and to the west by Cazenovia. Fenner is a small, rural town of about 1,700 residents probably best known as the home of the Fenner Wind Farm, a series of power-generating wind turbines. The busier town of Cazenovia, a popular summertime resort town, is only 4 miles west.



Essentials

For grocery shopping, there’s a Tops Friendly Markets Store in Cazenovia. The closest Wegmans supermarket is in Fayetteville (Onondaga County), about 16 miles northwest. Cazenovia also has a vibrant, upscale shopping district mainly of boutiques, gift shops and the like. For major retail shopping, there’s a Walmart Supercenter in the city of Oneida (about 15 miles northeast). The Syracuse area has a much wider variety of shopping options, including several malls.



Recreation & Entertainment

Most recreation and entertainment options in Fenner are of the outdoor variety – hunting, camping, hiking and snowmobiling. Nearby Cazenovia has more to do and see, starting with Cazenovia Lake and the picturesque village built around it. Cazenovia College offers a number of things to do, and the village is home to the Catherine Cummings Theatre, the Nelson Odeon performance center, horse stables and an outdoor sculpture park.



Transportation & Traffic

Route 13 heads north-south through Fenner on the western edge of town. Route 20, a well-traveled east-west road, is just south of town and Route 5, another east-west route, is just north of Fenner.



Pros & Cons

The rural character and wide-open spaces are what attract people to Fenner. You’re just minutes away from the busier resort area of Cazenovia without the traffic or crowds.
