Welcome to Georgetown, NY

Overview

Georgetown is a town on the southern edge of Madison County, bordered to the north by Nelson, to the east by Lebanon, to the south by Chenango County (town of Otselic) and to the west by DeRuyter. With just under 1,000 residents, Georgetown is the least-populated town in Madison County. The town has a hamlet, also called Georgetown, which is at the junction of Routes 26, 64 and 80. Like many of the towns on the county’s southern tier, Georgetown is highly rural, with plenty of wide-open space where outdoor activity is the main attraction.

Essentials

Georgetown has little to offer in the way of shopping, but there are nearby options. For grocery shopping, the neighboring town of DeRuyter has a Big M supermarket. The closest Tops Friendly Markets store is in Cazenovia. The closest Wegmans supermarket is in Fayetteville, Onondaga County, about 27 miles northwest of here. For retail shopping DeRuyter has smaller stores like Family Dollar and Cazenovia has a vibrant business district of mainly upscale boutique-type shops.

Recreation & Entertainment

Transportation & Traffic

Route 26, Route 80, Route 64 and Route 13 all pass through Georgetown.

Pros & Cons

Georgetown is a mostly rural community with plenty of wide-open space. People who live here do so because of its small-town atmosphere and to get away from the hustle-bustle of larger towns.
