Overview

Madison is a town on the eastern edge of Madison County, bordered to the north by Stockbridge and Oneida County (town of Vernon), to the east by Brookfield and Oneida County (town of Sangerfield), to the south by Hamilton and to the west by Eaton. The town of Madison includes a village also named Madison as well as several hamlets.


Essentials

For grocery shopping, the city of Sherill in Oneida County has a Tops Friendly Markets store that’s about 17 miles east of Madison. Another Tops store is in Canastota, 22 miles northwest. The closest Wegmans supermarket is in Fayetteville, Onondaga County (29 miles northwest).



Recreation & Entertainment

Madison is best known for outdoor activities like hunting, fishing, hiking and camping. Hamilton Theater in neighboring Hamilton is a first-run movie theater complex. The Colgate Ho Science Center (on the Colgate University campus) has a planetarium and other attractions. Also is Hamilton, you’ll find the Palace Theatre for performing arts and the Picker Art Gallery.



Transportation & Traffic

Route 20, a well-traveled road, heads east-west through Madison. Route 12, which goes north-south, is just east of Madison.



Pros & Cons

Madison is a rural community with lots of wide-open space. Here, you’re close to both Colgate University and Morrisville State College. You’re also close to Turning Stone Casino and Vernon Downs Casino.
