Overview

Stockbridge is a town on the eastern edge of central Madison County, bordered to the north by the city of Oneida and partly by Oneida County (town of Vernon), to the east by Oneida County (town of Augusta), to the south by Madison and Eaton, and to the west by Smithfield and Lincoln. Stockbridge includes several hamlets and the village of Munnsville. Stockbridge is a small town of only about 2,000 residents. Most of Stockbridge is rural and the attractions are of the outdoor variety.


Essentials

For grocery shopping, the closest Tops Friendly Markets stores are in Canastota and the village of Sherrill, in Oneida County (8 miles north). The closest Wegmans supermarket is in Fayetteville, Onondaga County (26 miles west). For major retail shopping, the city of Oneida has a Walmart Supercenter on Genesee Street and Glenwood Shopping Plaza has stores like Big Lots.



Recreation & Entertainment

Stockbridge is known mostly for outdoor recreation, like hunting, fishing, hiking and camping. The town also has two locations that offer hot-air balloon rides. There are plenty of other things to do in the area, starting with Turning Stone Casino and Resort. Turning Stone not only is a full-fledged casino, it also has showrooms that feature nationally known musicians and comedians and a popular spa.



Transportation & Traffic

Route 46 runs north-south through Stockbridge. Route 5, which runs east-west, is just north of town; beyond that, a bit farther north, is the New York State Thruway.



Pros & Cons

Stockbridge is a small, wide-open town with plenty of room for outdoor activities. Still, with its locale on the border of Oneida County, it’s close to several attractions. Oneida Lake is nearby.
