Welcome to Canadice, NY

Overview

Canadice is a town in the southwestern corner of Ontario County, bordered to the north by Richmond, to the east by South Bristol, and to the south and west by Livingston County. Canadice is situated between Hemlock Lake to the west and Honeoye Lake to the east, and Canadice Lake is entirely within the town’s borders. Simply put, this is a place for people who enjoy quiet, wide-open outdoorsy areas.

Essentials

Most of the places to shop in this area are in Geneseo (in Livingston County), which is 21 miles west of Canadice or in Canandaigua, about 21 miles northeast. For grocery shopping, Geneseo has a Wegmans supermarket (at Genesee Valley Plaza) and other smaller markets. Geneseo has a thriving and growing retail center, anchored by a Walmart Supercenter but also including an appliance store, a hardware store, a Dollar Tree and a florist. The village’s Main Street has a variety of funky shops, including the inimitable Buzzo Music.

Recreation & Entertainment

If you live in Canadice, you’re probably the outdoor type. There are three lakes here – Canadice in the town and Hemlock to the west and Conesus to the east. As such, the main attractions here are the spectacular natural areas, and the big activities are fishing, boating, hiking and hunting. Geneseo is home to the State University College at Geneseo, which means a vibrant nightlife when school is in session and several funky stores and attractions.

Transportation & Traffic

Route 15A is one of the only main roads in this highly rural area, running north-south. The other is Route 20A, which heads east-west.

Pros & Cons

You’ll have plenty of space and lots of beautiful natural attractions here. On the other hand, you’ll have to drive a ways for most shopping and other entertainment options.
