Overview

Seneca Falls is a town in northeast Seneca County, bordered to the north by Tyre, to the east by Cayuga Lake (and beyond that, Cayuga County and the town of Aurelius), to the south by Fayette, and to the west by Waterloo. Seneca Falls is an historic town as the home of the National Women’s Hall of Fame and the Women’s Rights National Historic Park. The town is also thought by some to be the inspiration for Frank Capra’s classic holiday movie, It’s a Wonderful Life, and events related to that movie are held around the winter holidays.


Essentials

Seneca Falls has a vibrant assortment of retail shopping options, with smaller stores like a Nice n Easy Convenience Store, a Rite Aid pharmacy, Country Max, Seneca Farm and Home Supply, tailors and photography shops and more. For major retailers, there’s a Walmart on historic and scenic Routes 5 & 20. For more grocery shopping, there’s a Top’s Friendly Markets store just 2 miles west of Seneca Falls in Waterloo. The closest Wegmans supermarket is in Auburn, about 15 miles east along 5 & 20.



Recreation & Entertainment

History is big here, but so too is outdoor activity like boating and fishing. Cayuga Lake is one of the major Finger Lakes and as such attracts oodles of fishermen and –women for bass and other fish, boaters, campers and other outdoor lovers. Cayuga Lake State Park has a boat launch, a swimming beach, cabins and other attractions.



Transportation & Traffic

Routes 5 & 20 are the major roadways here, heading east-west through many of the quaint, small communities in the area. Route 89 runs north-south along the shoreline of Cayuga Lake. Route 414 also runs through town.



Pros & Cons

Seneca Falls is great for history lovers and outdoor lovers. Nestled in the heart of the Finger Lakes and along historic Routes 5 & 20, Seneca Falls is a delightful community that still maintains a small-town feel but has plenty of amenities.
