Overview

Penn Yan Village is located on Keuka Lake, the central lake of the Finger Lakes Region of Western New York. The Village of Penn Yan is primarily in the Town of Milo, but a small section is in the Town of Benton and an even smaller section is in the Town of Jerusalem with the Penn Yan Airport south of the village. Incorporated in 1833, Penn Yan is the county seat of Yates County with an approximate population of 5,500.


Essentials

Many of your shopping needs in Milo can be met in Penn Yan. For groceries, Penn Yan has a Tops Friendly Markets store, an Aldi supermarket, a Byrne Dairy store and small retailers like Ace Hardware. For more shopping choices, you’ll have to head about 17 miles north to Geneva in nearby Ontario County where you can find Wegmans and Tops Friendly Markets, a Walmart Supercenter on Routes 5 & 20 and a Peebles.



Recreation & Entertainment

Most of the things to do in Penn Yan (and most of Yates County) are of the outdoor variety. As the only town in the county with frontage on two of the Finger Lakes, Milo is especially attractive to boaters, fishermen and-women, campers and picnickers. Camp Cory, a summer camp for kids, is just north of Penn Yan. The Finger Lakes Wine Trail, along Route 14 and loaded with wineries, passes through Milo. Penn Yan boasts attractions like a movie-theater multiplex and the popular seasonal outdoor shopping market known as The Windmill. Geneva, to the north, also has a movie multiplex as well as attractions like the Smith Opera House and a collegiate-league baseball team.



Transportation & Traffic

Route 14 passes north-south through Milo with lovely views of Seneca Lake. Route 14A also runs north-south through town, and Route 54 runs mainly east-west. A general aviation airport is just south of Penn Yan.



Pros & Cons

As Milo is one of the more populated towns in Yates County (about 7,000) and Penn Yan is where most of them call home. Penn Yan, the county seat, is at the northern end of Keuka Lake in the center of the beautiful Finger Lakes Region.
