OverviewStarkey is a town in the southeast corner of Yates County, bordered to the north by Milo, to the east by Seneca Lake, to the south by Schuyler County and to the west by Barrington. Starkey includes three hamlets and the village of Dundee, which is on the west side of town. Here, of course, the biggest attraction is Seneca Lake, one of the biggest of the Finger Lakes. Boating, fishing, hiking and camping are among the attractions. Route 14, which runs north-south beside the shoreline of the lake, is loaded with wineries and vineyards as part of the Finger Lakes Wine Trail. This agricultural region has vineyard-covered hills, dairy farms and tree-canopied streets. Dundee has an entire historic village district for history and architecture buffs. You’re close to the busier villages of Penn Yan, the county seat of Yates County, and Watkins Glen (to the south), which has a tremendous state park with a lovely gorge trail. Watkins Glen also attracts auto-racing enthusiasts to its world-renowned track. Dundee also hosts weekly stock-car racing. Local Museums/Landmarks Starkey has several sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places: the Thomas Bennett Curtis House, the William Swortz House, Crescent Methodist Episcopal Church, the John Noyes House, Starkey United Methodist Church, the Daniel Supplee Cobblestone Farmhouse, and the Dr. Henry Spence Cobblestone Farmhouse and Barn Complex.
